This is kind of an intangible goal, so I’m going to put it here on my blog in hopes that I can fulfill it here through images. But I want to challenge myself to become more curious and also more adventurous with my camera. I’ve been working a few projects lately that while challenging in production, are also in my safe zone in terms of subject matter. Not sure what I’m going to do to see this through, but hopefully by posting this I’ll be able to start the process of figuring it out.

Suna rocking the Wu-Tang.
Recently shot a story for Super Street Magazine on twin brothers Eric “Grim” and Marc “Koz” Kozeluh who operate the Twins Turbo custom fabrication shop for your not-so-average high performance vehicles. Based in Long Beach, California, by way of Queens, New York, the brothers are a great story of all American bootstrapping where hard work eventually pays off. The twins were also very much of the same mindset, both sharing an outspoken passion for politics, guns, and cars. Make any attempt at small talk around the current state of affairs in the U.S. and the two can wax poetic on the dangerous encroachment of personal liberties by both Democrat and Republican politicians, how American government both federal and local are hostile to small businesses, and that every U.S. citizen should be bearing arms (responsibly). Needless to say, there was no shortage of conversation during the shoot except for when the boys decided that they needed to get back to work building a top secret Ford Mustang for the Need For Speed video game series.

Outtakes:

On a chilly Long Beach morning, “Grim” warms his hands on the sparks.

Beast, the abandoned dog the brothers found roaming by their industrial complex 7 years ago, licks Koz’s face during a portrait.

Guns are possibly the one thing the brothers love more than cars. Just possibly. (Notice the practice of firearm safety: no fingers on triggers until ready to shoot!)

Grim working on the Need For Speed Ford Mustang.

A mantra the brothers deeply believe in.
Thanks to Jonathan and the rest of the Super Street crew!
